Philadelphia Eagles -6 @ Minnesota Vikings.

FINAL SCORE: Philadelphia Eagles 30, Minnesota Vikings 48.

Preview & Score prediction.

After picking up a big win against Detroit in a blizzard last weekend, Philadelphia finds themselves alone atop the NFC East.  They will try to extend their winning streak to six when they head to Minnesota to face the Vikings.  The Eagles could catch a break if star running back Adrian Peterson can’t go. The reigning NFL MVP suffered a sprained right foot in last Sunday’s wild 29-26 loss at Baltimore, leaving his status for this game unclear.  Peterson was seen without his walking boot but isn’t expected to practice until Friday at the earliest. He is tied for the league lead with 10 rushing touchdowns and ranks second behind McCoy  with 93.9 yards per game.  The Eagles have averaged 31 points per game in the last six weeks, best in the NFC and their star running back LeSean McCoy has been a big reason why.  He leads the NFL in yards from scrimmage and has been a very important part of both the rushing and passing attack for the Eagles.  While Minnesota has gone winless on the road, it’s posted back-to-back home wins over Washington and Chicago in going 3-3 on its own turf.  The Vikings will start Matt Cassell who will be given a second consecutive start after throwing for 265 yards and two scores against the Ravens. Baltimore and Minnesota traded the lead an NFL-record six times in the fourth quarter and combined for five touchdowns over the final 2:05.  Cassell will have a hard time keeping up with Nick Foles who leads the NFL with a 120.0 passer rating. Foles threw his first interception against the Lions, leaving him one shy of matching Peyton Manning’s record  for most touchdowns, 20 without a pick to start the season.  His favorite target has been the speedy DeSean Jackson, who has been much more involved with the offense under Foles than he was under Mike Vick.  The Eagles are 6-1 when he scores a touchdown this season.  Jackson and Foles could be in for big days against Minnesota who has surrendered an NFL high 29 touchdowns through the air and 285 passing yards per game, 30th in the league.

The Eagles offense will be too much for the Vikings in this one and they won’t score enough points to keep up or stay within the number in this one.

Key Trends:

FINAL SCORE:  San Fransisco 49ers 33, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 14.

San Fransisco 49ers -4 @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Preview & Prediction

Looking at the past three games you can see some real improvement in the play of quarterback Colin Kaepernick. His numbers were just good enough against Seattle last week but the two weeks prior he had QB ratings of over 100, showing some of the flash and dash we were expecting from him all season but has been rare to find. The 49ers have been happy to welcome top receiver Michael Crabtree back to the lineup but they are still struggling with injuries, now to their offensive line which is key to the success of their ground game – 6th in the league. Ranked even better than that is their defense which is 4th in yards and 3rd in points allowed. In this one they don’t need either CK or the defense to play out of their mind . Just to the standards they have set.
Tampa have won 4 of their last 5 games and last week they really stuck it to the Buffalo Bills. Amazingly they won so handily even though QB Mike Glennon had the worst performance of his career to date, neither completing 50% of his passes nor breaking even 100 yards through the air. The beat the Bills so badly because the defense came up big. They picked off rookie QB E.J. Manuel 4 times and sacked him 7 times. Any time you make an opposing QB look that bad you are going to get a victory, even if you are the Bucs. I was surprised at the sack total especially because Manuel is a strong and mobile QB, like CK......
Defensively, the 49ers are one of the best units in the NFL. San Francisco has excelled in every major category. This reminds me of the recent Bucs vs Panthers game, with Carolina eventually winning out 27-6. They stuffed the run, forcing Glennon into throwing situations. Glennon will again struggle against an elite defense and won't be able to catch the 49ers offense.
Take the 49ers.

Key Trends:

  • Buccaneers are 13-28-1 ATS in their last 42 home games.
  • Buccaneers are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games in December.
  • 49ers are 4-0 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
  • 49ers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games.
  • 49ers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games after accumulating more than 150 yards rushing in their previous game.
  • 49ers are 21-7-3 ATS in their last 31 games following a ATS loss.
  • 49ers are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games in Week 15.
