WWE TLC PPV 2013

PREVIEW AND PREDICTIONS

WWE's December pay-per-view is near and it brings with it a card stacked with intriguing matchups and strange matches.  On a card with two 3-on-1 handicap matches, a four-way tag team championship match and a TLC match set to unify the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships, anything can happen on Sunday as the WWE's best and brightest take the stage.

Pre-Show Kickoff Match
Dolph Ziggler vs. Fandango

The real tension with this match is whether these two can do anything that elevates them into something more meaningful than the pre-show in future PPVs. Dolph and Dango can do big spots, and you don't need a ton of time to work in a few of those. It would have been nice if this match had been given so much as one ounce of build, like Kofi-Miz and the relaunch of Sin Cara. For instance, this could have been a #1 contender match for the U.S. title, because why not?

Without much at stake and no storyline to work with, count on the babyface getting the win here. Ziggler lost out on an opportunity to face Langston for the Intercontinental Championship thanks to Sandow, but he'll be in line for the next title shot. For now, Ziggler gets a smidgen of momentum, kicking the show off with a good guy prevailing.

Predicted MATCH WINNER: Dolph Ziggler.

Fatal 4 Way Tag Team Championship Match

(Champions) Goldust & Cody Rhodes vs. Real Americans w/ Zeb Colter vs. RyBack & Curtis Axel vs. Rey Mysterio & Big Show

Where's the Usos? I guess the lesson here is when there's a deep tag division, sometimes one of your favourites gets left out of the shuffle. The major question in this match is will Cesaro swing Big Show?

Goldust and Cody finally get the opportunity to shine as the main act in a tag team title match with The Shield and the Wyatt Family preoccupied with their own matches. Expect this to be an opportunity for the Rhodes to show off a little bit to get things rolling in high gear again in the tag division. The Real Americans are the only real competitors in the match, but it's not time for the brothers Rhodes to drop the straps yet, especially in multi-team madness. Coming out to say "We The People" months in a row without anything to show for it can only go on for so long. I still love the idea of Cody Rhodes vs. a heel Goldust come WMXXX. The champs can retain on Sunday but be ready to lose against The Real Americans in a month or two.

Predicted MATCH WINNER: The Rhodes Brothers.

3 on 1 Handicap Match
Daniel Bryan vs. The Wyatt Family

This is one of the most intriguing matchups on the card for Sunday, MOTN potential. Daniel Bryan will take on the weird Wyatts in a 3-on-1 handicap match to settle their mini-feud. Bryan is not only outnumbered and undersized in this matchup, there's a chance that Bray Wyatt somehow gets him to join his clan. The Wyatt Family's momentum is too strong to go losing to just one man. Look for Bryan to survive for an impossibly long amount of time but eventually fall. Thankfully for Bryan, his latest run to fame has made him one of the select few on the roster that can take a loss without looking too weak. Could Bryan be kidnapped again? Lets hope only this time we see some brainwashing, unlike when Kane disappeared.

Predicted MATCH WINNER: The Wyatt Family.

Intercontinental Championship Match

(Champion) Big E. Langston vs. Damien Sandow

With not much designated time for their segments and matches leading up to this one, they've done a nice job of building up to it. The matches have been short but have packed in plenty of action, and having the other guy on commentary in the mean-time has given it a welcome dose of hype. It's too early for Langston to lose the title. The powerhouse hasn't yet extracted the career-boosting power that the IC belt has to offer. He needs to successfully defend the championship at least a handful of times in order to make the most of his reign. That's bad news for Sandow fans. "The Intellectual Saviour" will be be overpowered and overwhelmed, serving as a stepping stone for a star on the rise. They seem to be lining up a program with Mark Henry next year with them working as a mentor/men-tee kinda deal till Henry turns on him savagely which could make for a good little program.

Predicted MATCH WINNER: Big E. Langston.

Divas Championship Match
(Champion) AJ Lee vs. Natalya

I hope they're given a decent amount of time on the show to strut their stuff because they could put on a stellar bout if that's the case. Total Divas has done wonders for Natalya in terms of providing an extension to her character, while AJ is the most over diva in the company since the likes of Trish Stratus and Lita were around. Natalya has been the focus as of late. She defeated both Alicia Fox and Tamina Snuka this week alone. Expect that to be WWE's way of making AJ's win look more impressive. With AJ so close to surpassing Maryse as the all-time longest-reigning Divas champ ever, the company is going that seize that opportunity to make the present more relevant than the past. Like it did with Punk's WWE Championship reign in 2012, WWE will highlight AJ's climb into record-setting status. After defeating Natalya with Tamina's help, look for the black-clad bodyguard to grow jealous and challenge AJ herself .....eventually, Natalya will get her rematch first.

Predicted MATCH WINNER: AJ Lee.

3 on 1 Handicap Match
CM Punk vs. The Shield

This match could easily steal the show on Sunday and while the Wyatt match will be all about the Wyatt Family coming together and looking stronger, this match will be the opposite. The Shield has had a great run, but they've shown a few cracks in their armour over the last few weeks as Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns have looked a little shaky in their communication and execution.

All four of these guys are top-tier performers, so the match itself can't be bad, but this one will be more about the story than anything. Count on one upset pushing Punk into the WWE Championship picture and leaving The Shield in search of answers. The tension between Dean Ambrose and his teammates is the window Punk can leap through to reach victory. Perhaps Roman Reigns accidentally spears the increasingly arrogant Ambrose, allowing Punk to steal a win (and move back into the title picture). Perhaps Reigns and Seth Rollins leave Ambrose to fend for himself after tiring of his antics. Hopefully whatever infighting occurs between "The Hounds of Justice" is only temporary, though, so that they can battle The Wyatt Family down the road.....WM XXX?

Predicted MATCH WINNER: CM Punk.

WWE & World Heavyweight Championship Unification TLC Match
John Cena vs. Randy Orton

The road to the much-publicized Champion of Champions main event match between World Heavyweight champion John Cena and WWE champion Randy Orton is a rocky one. Orton is seemingly The Authority’s handpicked “face of WWE,” but that all seemed to change on the December 9, 2013 edition of Monday Night Raw when Triple H surprised Orton with a devastating Pedigree maneuver.  The lines became even more blurred when Cena stood next to The Authority after Triple H’s attack. Also, with CM Punk and Daniel Bryan becoming physically involved in the “Championship Ascension” ceremony on Raw, the various hypotheses of what might happen in the main event this Sunday only increase. All of the speculation concerning the main event makes this a must-see event. The historic nature of the title unification, along with the various possibilities of the main event’s outcome, will lead to an exciting conclusion.

When this match was first booked everyone expected a screwjob finish where both men would grab a belt at the same time and the two championships would remain intact, but given the poor reactions to the endings of the last four pay-per-views that all had similar screwy finishes, it seems imperative for WWE to finally deliver on a stipulation in a decisive fashion. It's always hard to bet against Superman Cena in such scenarios, but where would they go with him as the Unified champion? Bryan could face either one of Cena or Orton, but I see his fued with the Wyatt Family continuing into the Royal Rumble. There's no real strong heels ready for him to face, it wouldn't aid the Authority angle at all, CM Punk seems primed to be the latest rebel to challenge the Authority's power and attempt to dethrone their handpicked champion Randy Orton. However if Orton is victorious, then there is a very good chance that Cena will win the Royal Rumble and dethrone Orton and The Authority at WrestleMania 30 with Hogan at his side. If Cena wins this match, he can grant Bryan his rematch. The other possibility is that Orton picks up the victory here, but drops the title to Cena at RR13. I just hope these two don't face off at WMXXX. I have to say that the final segment of Monday's RAW gave me a complete 180 on this match and now I am totally giddy in anticipation for this one, BIG TIME, BIG FIGHT feel. Regardless of the outcome, Cena and Orton should give us a great match here. I'm sure there will be lots of drama, overbooking, and crazy crap happening. There are so many ways this one could end that it adds even more to the anticipation.

At the end of the day, I believe if WWE was to have Cena vs Orton in the main event of WM XXX it would be exactly the match we are getting sunday night - Championship unification match. Therefore I cant see WWE heading in that direction. Orton gets the win, and his moment in history. I don't see Randy heading into WM XXX as the champion, ultimately dropping the belt to Cena or Punk at Elimination Chamber. A moment on Raw around a month or so ago comes to mind, if you remember in a backstage segment Randy Orton and The Shield essentially made a deal. Help each other out and have each others backs. Now forget for a second I predicted Punk wins, perhaps Orton runs in costing Punk the victory and in doing so making good on his deal. This would allow for The Shield to return the favour taking out Cena and ensuring the Viper climbs the ladder to victory. Punk could chase Orton, whilst Cena could battle the Shield and serve as filler feuds on the road to Wresltemania. Its highly doubtful though, due to the tease of dissension among the Shield members.

Finally, for people complaining about this 'stale' rivalry, they have not faced each other in a major pay-per-view match since the 60-minute Anything Goes Iron Man match at Bragging Rights 2009. In crowning the Champion of Champions, two eras will seemingly come to an end. Not only will there be one champion, but the on-and-off feud of the past decade between Cena and Orton will most likely be over. Seeing Cena and Orton in the Champion of Champions TLC match will close one era and open another in WWE, making TLC 2013 a can’t-miss event.

Predicted MATCH WINNER: Randy Orton.
